Underground Electrician Services
Many new construction and existing homes will at some point need an installation or modification of an overhead or underground electric service. These revisions or installations are proposed mainly by ComEd and ComEd’s contractors and can come at a hefty price. By having a competent electrical contractor perform the work instead of ComEd you can save yourself both time and money.
Underground Electric Services
Many customers who have overhead electric services or need a new service installed will choose to install or relocate their wiring underground. This can be done a number of ways including trenching, directional boring, and plowing your service pipe in.
No matter which way is most cost-effective or desirable for you, we can take care of your project. We have our own directional drilling crews that can quickly, safely, and cleanly install your new service and multiple different-size trenchers to fit your needs.
Overhead Electric Services
The most cost-effective and basic of electric services is still the standard 200 amp overhead electric service. We can install your overhead meter fitting, riser, and the piping and wiring to the panel.
200 Amp Upgrade
Years ago the 100 and 60-amp electric services were very commonplace and suitable for the needs of older homes. Now with more electrical appliances being installed every day and with the growing size of homes in general you may require more power than these aging wires can deliver.
If you are in need of an electrical service upgrade contact us for a free consultation. We can replace the existing meter fitting with a new 200 amp meter fitting, install a new panel to replace the existing one, and install the new piping and wiring to ComEd’s utilities.
Alternative to ComEd
When most people think of a modification or installation of an electric service they think of ComEd. Typically ComEd will supply you with a quote for the services that they render along with a quote from one of their subcontractors to do the trenching or directional boring.
This is typically a one-size-fits-all price and may not be the most cost-effective solution to your problem. We can take ComEd’s plan and work up a comparable alternative to their subcontractors such as Meade. We can almost always save our customers a substantial amount of money and time.
Directional Boring
The least damaging and in most cases cleanest way to install underground electrical conduits and wire is directional boring. By setting a machine at either the start or end of a conduit run we can remotely drill to the final destination.
At this point, we will connect the wire or pipe to be installed and pull it back through the ground. All while not disturbing your landscape, hardscape, or yard.
Cable and Wire Repair
In the event that an underground cable or pipe does fail, it will need to be repaired. We can identify, locate, and repair almost any cable fault or failure. For low and line voltage wires we can locate the line and pinpoint the exact location of the problem. We can then provide you with a price for excavating and repairing the damaged wire. For high and medium-voltage wiring we can test the wire using a megohm tester and even use destructive testing such as a “hi-pot”. This test sends a high voltage pulse across a known bad conductor which will burn through bad spots in the wire insulation. This pulse or “thump” as it’s called can then be located using a special locator or sometimes even through your feet to identify the failure’s location. Once identified, we can repair or replace your problem wire.
Underground Installation / Electric Conduit
By far the most common product we install is electrical conduit. A majority of these conduits are for the installation and relocation of underground electrical services for your home or business. We also install smaller and larger conduits for private sub-feeds, gate and entry systems, and any other electrical needs. Typically we install a purpose-manufactured poly pipe specifically certified as a nonmetallic electrical conduit. This conduit is buried a minimum of 24” deep and typically is supplied by us in a vibrant orange color to not damage during future excavations. We will typically install a pull string in the conduit to ease the installation of wiring by either you or your contractor. Some projects require the installation of electrical vaults or junction boxes in the ground. Depending on the location of the junction box or vault we can supply you with different options and installations.
